TOP NEWS- Roger Cedeno joined
the Kenny Lofton Club on Thursday night as he was injured on a headfirst
slide into first base. Cedeno broke two fingers and ruptured a tendon in
the ring finger of his left hand. He'll be out six to eight weeks.
LATEST- A tumble on the basepaths led to a separated shoulder and a strained hamstring for Cubs shortstop Ricky Gutierrez. He was placed on the DL on Friday and infielder Chad Meyers was called up.
LATEST- Even though he said he was feeling better, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Travis Lee was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday. The club recalled outfielder Turner Ward to take Lee's spot in the right field platoon with Bernard Gilkey.
LATEST- The season came and went
for Tampa Bay pitcher Wilson Alvarez before he even threw a pitch in a
big-league contest. Alvarez had season-ending arthroscopic surgery to fix
a torn left rotator cuff on Thursday.
LATEST- After two months of stops
and starts in his rehab process, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Mike Jackson
will have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder. Jackson learned
this week that he may have a torn labrum.
LATEST- After a week off due to
a bad lower back, Chicago Cubs third sacker Shane Andrews hit the 15-day
disabled list on Monday. That's bad timing for Andrews owners, as the low-average
power hitter will miss a trip to Coors Field.
